Preparing for VE Day: Wednesday 6th March

Good morning Hedgehogs and Happy Wednesday.

Friday is a very special day. It is the 75th anniversary of V.E. day -  V.E. stands for Victory in Europe. It celebrates the end of World War 2, which was 6 years long.

On the first V.E. day, on 8th May 1945, everyone in the UK had street parties and celebrations. They were so relieved the fighting was over and that the soldiers, pilots and sailors could finally come home.

In London the streets were crowded and the Royal Family and the Prime Minister waved to people from Buckingham Palace.

On Friday, people all over the UK will be celebrating again to mark 75 years since the end of the war.

You can find out a bit more here.

Today's blog is full of ideas to help you to celebrate V.E. day and learn a bit about life in the 1940s.

There are some more photos here.

Swing Dancing
The Charleston
Lindy Hop

A 1940s playlist
Some wartime songs with lyrics.

I hope you enjoy learning about V.E. day and please send us photographs of anything you do to celebrate!

Greetings dear Hedgehogs!

I hope you've all had a good weekend. I decided to do something I don't usually do. I made a cake! It was a banana cake and I put giant chocolate buttons in it, just for fun. A tip for you: giant chocolate buttons go very well in banana cake.

Komet and I went into one of our favourite fields. We like it at this time of year because it starts to turn yellow...

You're doing a great job for Winston Wolf and the Pigs. I've been enjoying your work and you can see some of it here.

I particularly enjoyed hearing your different ideas about Winston and whether or not he was trying to trick the pigs. I thought he
just wanted to gobble them up with a cup of tea, but I might be
wrong.

The story, and your jobs, continue below...

Have fun, my super Fairy Tale Fixers!

P.S. If any of you watched the George and the Dragon storytelling from this blog post, please could you let me know a) that you watched it, b) what you thought of it and c) whether you did
any other St George activities? The storyteller would like to know!

Goodbye!

Dear Hedgehog Parents, It feels very strange finally to be saying goodbye to you all. Whaddon has been my second home for the past ten years...
