Merry, merry Christmas!

Dear Hedgehogs and Hedgehog parents,

There goes a whole term of school - a third of the year! It has, of course, been a little bit strange but despite that we have had a great term in Hedgehog Class. The final four days were filled with stories, Christmas activities and general fun.

Less Christmassy, but importantly, I also managed to assess all of the children's phonics, HFW reading lists (YR) and spellings (Y1) so I will be in touch with you via Parentmail about those.

Christmas is going to be a little bit different this year, but I wish you all a very merry Christmas and a good and restful break. Over the holidays, please read as often as you can using Rising Stars and refer to the Parentmail email for any sounds and words your child needs to learn.

If you would like some extra things to do, you will find a bank of work here:

https://whaddon.eschools.co.uk/website/learning_at_home/423689

Hedgehogs, well done for all of your hard work and learning this term. Parents, thank you for all of your support of the children's learning and of our school - especially during the week we had to close!

Merry Christmas :0)

It's Friday!

Happy, happy and HAPPY Friday to you all.

Congratulations on a whole week of learning at home. You have been doing a very good job and I have very much enjoyed seeing what you have been up to.

In the tradition of learning-at-home blogs, today's has no compulsory tasks. Well, it just has one compulsory task which is the first one.

The other tasks are just some festive fun that you can choose to do over the weekend, or not!

To begin with, Mrs McKee has kindly created a singalong for you! It's here.

Your one compulsory task:

Please do some reading using the Rising Stars website (or books if you have your own reading books at home). Parents, please email me with what your child has read and how they got on. Usually, they would read with an adult a couple of times per week so it would be great to know how their reading is going.

I have recently added more books to the accounts.

Please email me if you are unable to access the website.

Enjoy your books Hedgehogs!

Some ideas for festive fun (sent with love from a variety of staff members!)

If you'd like it, a template is here.
Find out about Save the Children's Christmas Jumper Day here.

The snowflake site is here.

The snowman cupcake recipe is here.

Have a wonderful weekend, Hedgehogs and Hedgehog parents.
Look out for more home learning on Monday :0)

Happy, happy Thursday to you.

Hello Hedgehogs and Hedgehog parents,

I hope you are all well and have been getting out and about as much as possible. Either side of making videos and replying to emails, I've been going to see Sam the pony. He's fluffy and quite muddy.

I am still very impressed with all the learning you've been doing at home. Give yourselves a pat on the back and a round of applause  :0)

Here is today's learning.

Reception Phonics

Parents, there is quite a lot to this session! Please feel free to break it up, or miss one of the games out today. I will leave it to your judgement.

As usual, please send me some notes on how your child gets on, and a photo or two if you can.

Year One Spellings

A bit of phonics and a bit of spellings for you today Year One!

Please send me photos of your work and tell me how you get on.

Reception AND Year One Maths

Year One - please complete the whole lesson (break it into shorter chunks if you like). Reception children, the video will let you know when you have finished your part. That way, any super keen Reception children can have a look at the Year One part too (this is very much optional).

Important clarification!
For the activity where children are arranging 5 carrots on a plate, the carrots need to be in adjacent cells (so, joining on to one another) to make the arrangements. Otherwise, Year 1, you'll be here for ever!

Reception writing:
Today, please just do some fine motor activities to build up your finger strength. You could:

* do some threading
* do some pegging
* pick up objects with tweezers, if you have any
* do some careful cutting
* make some playdough and do lots of kneading, squashing, pinching and squeezing!

Year One Super Sentence Writing:

In your phonics/spelling lesson you looked at adding 'ing' to a verb. Your challenge today is to include a verb (or some verbs) with -ing endings in your sentence.

As always, dear Hedgehogs, I look forward to seeing your work!

It's Wednesday!

Good morning Hedgehogs and Hedgehog Parents,

Happy Wednesday, one and all.

Thank you for all the wonderful work you've been sending me. I am working my way through the emails and will get back to you soon! I really enjoyed seeing what you've been up to.

I think there were a few technical issues yesterday, for which I apologise. Today, I've put a link to the videos, instead of embedding them here. I hope that will help! Just click on the images below and you should (hopefully) be taken to the video.

Have a good day!

Reception Phonics:

Please watch this video and send me a photo of your writing and perhaps a photo of your word building, with some notes of how you got on.

Reception Maths:

Watch the lesson below. You might need to take a break in between the different sections! When you have finished, please send me photos of you doing your work with some notes on how you got on.

Reception Writing:

Practice writing your name! There are a few stage to this challenge:

* Write your name with all of the letters there. If you can do that, try...
* forming every letter correctly! If you can do that, try...
* making sure your capital letter is taller than the others.

(Parents, only go as far as your child is ready for!)

Year 1 Phonics:
Please watch the lesson and then send me some photos of your work, particularly your snowmen and spellings!

Year One Maths:

Please watch the video and then send me photos of your problem solving! There are some extra challenges as well today, if you want them...

Year 1 Super Sentence:

For today's sentence, your challenge is to use an -ly opener. You can choose one of these, or you can use a different one:

Luckily
Suddenly
Unfortunately
Quickly
Slowly

Well, I think that's all for today! I look forward to seeing your marvellous work. Have a very, very good Wednesday.

Home again.

Hello Hedgehogs and Hedgehog Parents,

I don't know about you, but I was very surprised not to be going into school today. We've been having a lovely time in class getting ready for Christmas and I'm so disappointed that we can't carry on our Christmassy days together. I feel a bit like the hedgehog in the photo.

However, I shall very much look forward to seeing you on the 18th December.

For now, here is some home learning for you. It's a little bit different to the last time the school was closed, so please let me know how you get on with it!

You will have received a letter from Mrs Davies explaining how it works. Learning with YR and Y1 is a little bit different to older children in that so much of it is practical. Therefore, a lot of what you send me will be a photo with some notes from you about how your child got on.

The work for each year group is below - I recommend doing one task at a time, with breaks in between tasks.

When you have finished, please send me (all one one email please):

YR:

  • Phonics: a photo of writing or word building, with notes on how you got on
  • Maths: a photo of you doing some counting, with notes on how you got on
  • Writing: a photo of your writing
Y1:

  • Phonics: a photo of your work, with notes on how you got on
  • Maths: a photo of you doing some counting in 2s and sorting the multiples of 2, with notes on how you got on.
  • Writing: a photo of your writing

Reception Phonics:

Year 1 Phonics:

Reception Maths:

Year 1 Maths:

That's all for now Hedgehogs! I hope this all goes well and I look forward to hearing from you. Parents, if you have any problems please get in touch at whaddonteachers@gmail.com
